正月一日、夕方の大地震は能登半島の景色まで変えてしまうほどの被害でした。いまはまだ、他県からの人的支援やボランティアの方たちに助けられています。
箱瀬工房も三棟全壊という被害でした。
ただこれまで本当に沢山の人から、いろんな形での援助を戴きました。
これは弟子たちも含め、我々にとっては大切な礎になることは間違いありません。
これからの再建も長くはかかりますが、できるだけ節目節目で、皆さんにご報告したいと思います。

On the evening of the first day of the New Year, a major earthquake hit the Noto Peninsula, changing the landscape of the region. We are still being helped by human support and volunteers from all around Japan.
Haikus-workshop also suffered the total destruction of three buildings.
However, we have received help from so many people in various ways.
This will surely be an important foundation for us, including our apprentices.
The road to rebuilding will take a long time.
I would like to report to you all at each milestone as much as possible.

今年一月一日の震災から早半年、長期間にわたりご支援してくださった方々には心から御礼申し上げます。
私個人として、廃業という選択は微塵も考えていませんでした。しかし「気持ちだけでどうにかなることではない」ということも、理解していました。
そんな中、大変心苦しくはありますが、皆様に義援金をお願いさせていただきました。
皆様に義援金を募ることが本当に正しいことだったのか、いまでも考え悩んでいます。
今後、「あの当時の選択は正しかった」と自分で納得、証明するためには、震災以前の箱瀬工房よりも良い形にすることしか、方法はないと思っています。
現在は地元の方々とのつながりのおかげで、仮工房が用意でき、少しずつ仕事の再開に向けて動いております。
また義援金を頂戴した方々の中で、お名前とご住所、お電話番号をくださった方には、再建後の目処が立った頃とはなりますが、御礼をお送りさせていただきたいと思っております。
輪島全体においても、これからの道のりは長く険しいものになります。一年や二年、あるいは十年後の輪島の漆器業界がどのように状態になっているか。それは私たちのこれからの歩み方にかかっています。その過程を、見守っていただけますと幸いです。

It’s been six months since the earthquake on January 1st. I deeply thank everyone who has supported us for so long.
Personally, I never thought about closing my business. But I knew that feelings alone weren’t enough.
With a heavy heart, I asked for donations. I still wonder if this was the right thing to do.
To prove to myself that this decision was correct, I think I need to make the workshop better than it was before the earthquake.
Thanks to local connections, we now have a temporary workshop and am slowly restarting work.
For those donors who gave their contact information, I plan to send thank-you notes once we’re back on our feet.
The road ahead for all of Wajima will be long and hard. How the lacquerware industry looks in one, two, or ten years depends on our actions now. I hope you’ll continue to watch over us during this process.
